Kao the Kangaroo Returns This Summer

Back in the year 2000, Kao the Kangaroo made the leap onto SEGA’s Dreamcast. Since then, the boxing glove-wearing kangaroo has bounced between PC, PlayStation 2, PSP, Nintendo GameCube, Xbox, and Game Boy Advance to sell over 700,000 units. Now, two decades later, Kao (pronounced KO) is back in a new platformer fittingly titled Kao the Kangaroo.

Explore beautiful levels packed with secrets and engage in combat with magic gloves stacked with powers. Take control of Kao, a cheeky, brave, and feisty kangaroo as he embarks on a life-changing journey. And like any good platformer, the game has a ton of items to collect. According to Kaja Borowko, Head of Studio, the upcoming Kao the Kangaroo game isn’t a sequel:

It’s really exciting to finally be able to say to people that, yes, we will be launching Kao the Kangaroo this summer. Throughout development, it’s been important to us to make sure Kao’s new adventure both feels like a tribute to his previous outings for existing fans, as well as a fresh, contemporary platformer for newcomers. This is not a sequel, this is a complete reboot, and we can’t wait to see players young and old come together to take on the role of Kao once more this summer.

Kao the Kangaroo will launch this summer on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. We will be doing a short interview with the developer soon, so stay tuned for that soon. In the meantime, click here to watch the announcement trailer.
