Summer Game Fest Has Officially Begun

A full week has gone by and it was one full of exciting game updates and announcements. Here is a quick recap of the top news stories in the world of gaming from this past week:

Starting with the updates, Nintendo had everyone on the edge of their seats waiting for a trailer for the newest generation of Pokémon Scarlet, and Violet. The trailer showcased all three new starting Pokémon (Fuecoco, Sprigatito, and Quaxly), both of the new legendary Pokémon (Koraidon and Miraidon), some new Pokémon (Most importantly, Lechonk), and gave us an official release date of November 18, 2022.

EA gave us some updates on the newest installment of Dragon Age as well as this year’s installment of Madden. Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is officially the title of the next installment of Dragon Age and confirmed that the game will next be released this year but will provide additional information later this year. Madden 23‘s cover will pay tribute to the legendary head coach and commentator, John Madden, who, unfortunately, passed away in December of 2021. John Madden was exclusively on the cover of the Madden games from 1988 (the first Madden game) to 2000 (when EA began putting athletes on the cover), and this will be the first time that he has returned to the cover in over 20 years.

Finally this week, we had a PlayStation State of Play that kicked off the Summer Games Fest. This State of Play focused on third-party titles and the PSVR 2, but unlike what many believed we did not actually see or hear any update on the physical hardware and it was strictly about the games. The most exciting announcements that came from this 30-minute conference were that Resident Evil 4 is being remade and will release on March 24, 2023, Street Fighter VI gameplay was shown as well as a few characters (this will release in 2023), and the anticipated indie game, Stray, finally got a release date of July 19, 2022.

Now, this of course is not everything that was talked about this past week or even all that was mentioned in these conferences but is a very high-level recap of the most important pieces of news from this past week.
