Post-Apocalyptic Kung-Fu Fable Biomutant is Out Today

Comments Off on Post-Apocalyptic Kung-Fu Fable Biomutant is Out Today

First announced in 2017, Biomutant from THQ Nordic and Experiment 101 was relatively radio silent for the first few years of development. To the point where back in February of 2020, the development team issued a statement to fans who were looking forward to the release of the martial arts-focused third-person action game that Biomutant was still in fact in development and that more information would be on the way. Today, four years after it was revealed, Biomutant is finally out.

Developed by a small Sweden-based game studio, Biomutant sets you loose on a large open world as a tiny furry warrior of your own design. The New World is ending, a plague is poisoning the land, the Tree of Life is bleeding, and the various Tribes that inhabit the world are divided. How it ends, if it ends, and who will die are all determined by your actions.

Biomutant is a third-person combat game that blends martial arts-style movement and agility with shooting and melee into what the developers call Wung-Fu. Your combat moves and abilities change as you level up and re-code your genetic structure. Speaking of re-coding genetic structures, exposure to bio-contaminations and old-world radiation will give you mutations and special psi-mutations such as Mucus Bubble or telekinesis.

Early reviews for the game are mixed with most reviews highlighting the world and gameplay as its best features. Our review for the game is still in progress, but be sure to follow us on Twitch to hear our first impressions this Friday.

Biomutant is out now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam, GOG, Epic Game Store, and Origin. The base game costs $59.99 while the Collector’s Edition and Atomic Edition will set you back $119.99 and $399.99 respectively. Before you make the purchase, PlayStation 5 owners should keep in mind that technical issues restrict the game to just 1080p at 60fps on PS5. No such problem has been reported on the Xbox Series X, meaning the system can play Biomutant at native 4K at 60fps. At the moment, both are played via backwards compatibility, and true next-gen versions of the game are on the way.
