Relive the Classics with Sonic Origins Launching on PC and Consoles in June

Sonic fans rejoice! Sonic Origins is launching on PC and Console on June 23, 2022, coinciding with the 31st anniversary of the original Sonic The Hedgehog‘s release in the US and PAL regions. Sonic Origins is a remastered collection including Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD.

To the dismay of many physical game collectors out there, Sonic Origins is being advertised as a “digital release”. Perhaps a company like Limited Run Games will step in and produce physical copies at a later date, but as of the writing of this article, no such physical release is confirmed. According to the Sonic website, Sonic Origins is available for preorder on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Steam, Epic Games Store, and Nintendo Switch which is labeled “coming soon”. The collection has a Standard version and a Digital Deluxe version, the differences of which are detailed in one of those loathsome “version charts” seen below, along with a breakdown of various DLC packs.

Basically, if you want all the content that is provided for the collection, you need to preorder the Deluxe Edition. It is strange that things like “Character Menu Animations” and “Camera Controls over Main Menu Islands” are only included in the Deluxe Edition and are missing from the Standard Edition.

Fans looking to get away from the retro classics also have the all-new Sonic Frontiers to look forward to. Currently scheduled for Holiday 2022, Sonic Frontiers is seemingly taking the Blue Blur into a 3D open-world format, complete with varied landscapes, powerful enemies, and, most likely, breakneck speeds.

Will you be picking up these remastered classics?
