Aliens: Fireteam Announced for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC

From Second Extinction to Back 4 Blood, co-op shooters are quite common nowadays. They take the shooter formula popularized by Valve’s Left 4 Dead and garnish it with new enemies, be it prehistoric dinosaurs or impressively large crowds of the undead. But if there were ever an IP that deserved to have the Left 4 Dead treatment, it’s James Cameron’s 1986 sci-fi action movie, Aliens, a movie that has a group of Colonia Marines unknowingly take on an entire Xenomorph hive. Now, thanks to Cold Iron Studios, that’s exactly what’s happening.

Aliens: Fireteam is a cooperative third-person survival shooter set 23 years after the original Alien trilogy. You play as a Colonial Marine that’s part of a fireteam that’s stationed aboard the USS Endeavor as they try to survive an entire Xenomorph hive. From Facehuggers to Praetorians, the hive includes over 20 enemy types, each with its “own intelligence” working to bring the fireteam to an end. It’s unclear if they will be as advanced as the dual-brained AI of the Xenomorph from Alien: Isolation, but with so many different enemies along the Xenomorph evolutionary scale working to hunt you down, there will be plenty of targets for you to shoot at.

The game has five classes, Gunner, Demolisher, Technician, Doc and Recon, and over 30 weapons to choose from. Each class has its own unique abilities and character perks and the weapons have 70+ mods and attachments.

Aliens: Fireteam will release Summer 2021 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Cold Iron Studios also released a trailer for the game showcasing some of the Xenomorph vs Fireteam action the game promises to deliver later this year. There is no word as of now if the game will have a beta but looking at Second Extinction and Back 4 Blood, I’d wager that it’s pretty likely.
