Thanks to the success of Call of Duty: Warzone, Call of Duty reveal events have been pushed later and later into the year. And, just like last year with Black Ops: Cold War, this year’s game has also been revealed in the still-thriving battle royale spin-off. Titled Call of Duty: Vanguard, this new first-person shooter led by Sledgehammer Games takes you back to the World War II era. This is the second time Sledgehammer Games has made a game in this time period with their last game, Call of Duty: WWII, also set during this conflict. In the Vanguard campaign, you play through some of the most influential battles in the war, fought across the Eastern and Western Fronts of Europe, the Pacific, and North Africa. Unlike their 2017 game, Vanguard will not focus on one team of soldiers, but rather jump between four protagonists in a style similar to Battlefield V. Though it is interesting to note that the story synopsis does state the characters’ journeys intertwine. There was little gameplay in the reveal trailer, but it’s no surprise by now that the game looks and sounds beautiful considering the fact that it is running on the same engine as the last two games in the series.

Along with the Campaign, the game also has the series staple Multiplayer with period-accurate loadouts and will have cross-play, cross-progression, and cross-gen support at launch. Being that the game will have full Warzone integration, Warzone will be getting a new map and a new anti-cheat system on PC. The latter of which being something a lot of players have been asking for. On Day 1 the game will have 20 maps and a new Champion Hill game mode and Sledgehammer Games promises a lot of free post-launch content from new maps to seasonal events and more. The Multiplayer reveal will happen soon at an undeclared date. Vanguard will also boast a Zombies mode, which is being developed by Treyarch Studios. This new Zombies experience, will tie into the Dark Aether storyline, and act as a precursor to the Black Ops: Cold War Zombies mode. The Zombies reveal will take place before or on All Hallows Eve.
